On Wednesday, 19 October 2016, the Department of Computer Science organized a workshop on Scrum to introduce to students a widely-used and flexible development process.
The workshop was run by Joanna El-Khoury, Agile and Scrum coach at Agile Arabia. An overview of Agile methodology, followed by a comparison with the Waterfall model, opened the workshop.
Participants went through different sprints to develop a Lego city based on the Lego game we all know. The exercise highlighted Scrum concepts and pointed out its advantages. Possible problems, to which developers should pay attention, were clearly explained. These relate to integration of components, definition of requirements, and identification and assessment of activities. Participants showed great interest in the workshop as they learnt about the need for an Agile development process.
