A PhD awarded to Anthony Khawaja

Anthony Khawaja has successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Physical Education entitled “Relations entre plusieurs critères d’évaluation de la sarcopénie et les paramètres osseux chez les jeunes adultes Libanais”. The dissertation was prepared under the co-tutorship agreement between the University of Balamand and the University of Rennes 2, France. It was supervised by Dr. Rawad El Hage, associate professor in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Balamand and Professor Jacques Prioux - University of Rennes 2. Based on Anthony’s research, three articles were published in international peer-reviewed journals. Dr. El Hage stated that he is very satisfied with the results of Dr. Khawaja’s research, which underlined the need to implement strategies to increase lean mass, appendicular lean mass, skeletal muscle index, maximum power and maximal strength of the lower limbs in young adults in order to prevent osteoporosis later in life. These results encourage the use of appendicular lean mass and skeletal muscle index as new determinants of bone variables in young adults.
