Seminar on Geotechnical Engineering

The Civil Engineering and Constructions department at Issam Fares Faculty of Technology - University of Balamand was proud to offer a seminar on Geotechnical engineering.

The seminar was held at University of Balamand-Koura Campus on February 27, 2019. It was tailor-designed for the needs of Civil engineering students and professionals.

Dr. Wahib Arairo, started the seminar by a welcome note emphasizing on the importance of geotechnical investigation during the tendering phase of project construction in order to manage and mitigate geotechnical risks.

The seminar continued by a presentation animated by the Geotechnical Engineer Marcel Mansour and entitled: “Chekka Highway Structures: Preliminary Earth Movement Study and Technical Solutions Proposal”.

He started with the Geographic, Geologic and Hydraulic status of Hamat Plate illustrated by different Aerial views. Then he moved to present the state of retaining walls on Chekka Highway with the underlying causes of the collapse. At the end of his presentation, Eng. Mansour closed the seminar by proposing an economical retaining solution to mitigate the soil erosion and earth movement.
