​On Friday, 4th September 2020, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) welcomed a delegation from the Contracting and Trading (CAT) Group headed by Group CEO Dr. Joseph Gebara. The purpose of the visit was to launch the CAT scholarship through which the company will be supporting up to 2 UOB engineering students each year. The generous scholarship amounts to $50,000 running over 5 years. In addition to the financial support, CAT engineers will contribute to research supervision and lecturing at FOE.
 
The delegation was received by Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud, department chairs, Dr. Karim Nasr, Mrs. Diala Farah Director of the Career Services Center, and Mr. Michael Salem. Prof Abboud gave a brief presentation about the faculty focusing on the potential for advancement in research and innovation. The discussion covered the reputation that UOB Alumni have earned at CAT.
 
The meeting was followed by a tour of the faculty facilities where Prof. Abboud showcased the state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities and elaborated on the potential for research projects and collaboration.
 
Prof Abboud emphasized the importance of this partnership with CAT assuring that it would not have been realized had it not been for our students who were making great strides in the industry. He emphasized that such collaboration is essential to better equip engineering students to face real-world challenges and shape their skills and mindset for job readiness. Prof Abboud concluded by thanking the generosity of CAT Group.
