On the 12th of December 2022, the University of Balamand (UOB) welcomed the Lebanese writer Ikhlas Francis, who was received by Dr. Hanna Al Nakat, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, as well as Dr. Doreen Nasr, Faculty Instructor.

Ms. Francis, who currently lives in the United States, presented her book “Zakirat Al Dawee” to the Issam Fares Library Learning Center at UOB. The book also contains a collection of articles and reviews from literary critics from all over the Arab world. Ms. Francis aims to shed light on the literary works of the Lebanese contemporary writer and literary critic Dr. Youmna El Eid.

Ms. Francis aims through her platform “Ghorfa 19” to honor Lebanese, Arab and International figures and support new literary talents. Hence, her efforts to distribute her book to various schools and universities in order to introduce students to significant literary works.

During the meeting, Dr. Nakat welcomed the initiative, expressing his great appreciation and gratitude for Ms. Francis’ contribution as well as the importance of having literary works similar to “Zakirat Al Dawee” in the Issam Fares Library Learning Center.

In turn, Dr. Nasr stressed on the importance of encouraging Arabic Literature students to learn more about literacy and visit cultural centers.

In closing, Ms. Francis expressed admiration for UOB’s role in embracing intellectual and cultural works through its enlightening cultural activities and cooperation with prominent writers and authors.
