FHS at a Glance

History

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) was founded in 1995. It was established in Achrafieh, Beirut, facing the St. George Hospital University Medical Center, and started with 7 full-time faculty and staff members and 17 students enrolled in two BS programs in Nursing and Medical Laboratory Sciences.

The Faculty also started operating at the Al Kurah Main Campus in Spring 2011, and then at the Souk el Gharb campus in Fall 2014. There are now more than 45 full-time faculty and staff members, with specializations in disciplines ranging from medical laboratory sciences, public health, toxicology, nursing, reproductive health, epidemiology, microbiology, molecular biology, epidemiology, anthropology, English, among others. About 600 students are enrolled in BS programs in Nursing (English and French sections), Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health and Development Sciences (begun in 1997), and Health Promotion (begun in 2000).

Since its establishment, the Faculty has expanded to include new degree programs. Currently, it offers Freshman courses, Undergraduate BS degrees, and Graduate Master degrees. Possibilities are available to complete pre-Medical requirements, minors, and dual undergraduate degrees. English is the main language of instruction, but Nursing undergraduate degrees are also available in French on the Dekwaneh Campus.

Since 1996, about 1764 students have graduated from the Faculty. Many students have chosen to continue their graduate studies in Lebanon and worldwide. Some have been awarded prestigious scholarships, such as the Chevening Scholarship from the British Council, the European Union Erasmus Mundus scholarship, and the American Fulbright Scholarship. Many graduates are pursuing professional careers working in governmental bodies, academic institutions, international and national organizations, and private industries (hospitals and healthcare centers, medical laboratories, pharmaceutical industries, non-governmental organizations, etc.).

Welcome to the Faculty of Health Sciences !

This Faculty takes pride in its collegial environment and community partnerships that nurture intellectual growth, professional development, and commitment to service. The Faculty enables students to develop into dedicated professionals with the needed attitudes, knowledge, and competencies. This strengthens their competitiveness and resilience as they pursue their career and life aspirations.

Our students are mentored through service and research. Our classes are small in size and our instructors offer individual attention to their students, working side-by-side in numerous projects and community activities. This results in University and Faculty-wide dynamics that enhance potential and facilitate the advancement and wellbeing of all concerned.

Academic programs of the Faculty are enriched through research and integration with our targeted community-based and nation-wide community engagement programs. These expand knowledge, advance experiential learning, and translate know-how into interventions that reduce risk, improve health, and increase wellbeing.
