Nursing Program

The Nursing Program at FHS-UOB is community-based and socially sensitive. The Nursing Program believes the Nursing is both a scientific discipline based on scientific knowledge, values and ethics and a profession which aims at practicing the discipline.

At the core of the Nursing Program lies the belief that health is a basic social right where the needs of individuals, families, and communities are respected and attended to. The Program offers a BS degree in French or English, and a Master’s degree in English.

Undergraduate Degrees

The Nursing Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences offers a three-year Undergraduate BS degree. The course of study is done in partnership with Saint George Hospital University Medical Center in Ashrafieh- Beirut. Parallel programs are offered on the Main Campus of the University and at Souk El Gharb campus.

The Nursing Program is dedicated to fostering quality nursing education and developing the nursing profession and the health care environment in Lebanon and the region. This is done by embracing innovation in the delivery and management of evidence-based health care education underpinned by research and ethics.

The Program aims at providing a positive environment for faculty, staff, and students through enhancing leadership abilities, analytical and critical thinking, technical skills, and community involvement.

Pre-Medical Track
Students who consider the option of a medical career can choose to enroll in a Pre-Medical Track. This provides the opportunity to complete premedical courses in three years, after which students can take the MCAT, and be eligible to apply to Medical School.


Ladder Program in Nursing
The Nursing Program offers a Ladder Program that upgrades a TS and BT degree holder in nursing to the level of Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For more information click here.


BS Program Mission
The Nursing Program is dedicated to providing quality nursing education and promoting the nursing profession and the health care environment in Lebanon and the region. This program embraces an evidence-based health care education underpinned by research and ethics.

The Nursing Program Focuses on providing a positive environment for faculty, staff and students through the development of leadership abilities, analytical and critical thinking, technical and community involvement.


BS Program Learning Objectives
  • - Prepare Nursing students to fulfill their roles as clinicians, educators, advocates, researchers, administrators, and leaders in health care settings.

  • - Create a learning environment that nurtures each student’s abilities, talents and goals.

  • - Engage students in active learning through the use of information and communication technologies.

  • - Instill humanistic approaches that foster critical thinking and promote awareness of social and cultural diversity.

  • - Reveal the characteristics of holistic Nursing practice and ensure that students apply them.

  • - Build a foundation for students to develop the following core competencies: Critical Thinking, Quality Care delivery, Leadership, Communication, Ethical Conduct, Team work & Collaboration, and Informatics &Technology use.

  • - Promote a healthy work environment and commit to professional self-development.

  • - Collaborate with community organizations in order to identify and develop a plan to address community needs.

  • - Use critical thinking, analytical skills and scientific knowledge in the delivery of an evidence-based practice that integrates physical, psychosocial, and spiritual dimensions

  • - Demonstrate competency, dexterity, and confidence in overall nursing skills application.

  • - Embody the professional role of caregiver, educator, and advocate for the individual/patient, family and community.

  • - Demonstrate assertiveness by skillfully communicating with the individual/patient and family as well as all the members of the health care team.

  • - Play a leadership role in problem solving, decision making, planning, time management, and delegation within the healthcare team.

  • - Deliver health care taking into consideration cultural differences, human rights, and ethical principles.

  • - Respond appropriately to individual/patient, family, and community needs at the level of direct care, health promotion, disease prevention, and rehabilitation.

  • - Utilize informatics and technology in education, research, and nursing practice.

After Graduation
Nursing Graduates will have the opportunity to work in hospitals, primary health care centers, school health, and diverse community settings. Some choose to pursue higher education in Nursing sciences and various other disciplines of health, education, and hospital and health administration and management.












MS in Nursing (MSN)

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a two-year graduate program leading to a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Nursing. The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is offered in English at the Achrafieh campus facing the St. George Hospital University Medical Center.

The program prepares advanced and qualified professionals to work in specialized fields within Nursing. It includes two specializations: Neonatal and Child Care and Adult Care.

MSN Mission
The MSN program at the Faculty of Health Sciences prepares advanced qualified nurses to respond to the increasing health care challenges and socio-demographic changes at the national, regional, and international levels. The Program prepares graduates who are critical thinkers, assertive leaders, effective communicators rigorous researchers, and determined advocates to respond to the emerging health care priorities.


MSN Program Learning Objectives
  • - Advance nurses’ abilities as members of an inter-disciplinary health care team, in practice and research.

  • - Foster excellence and innovation in the delivery and management of evidence-based health care education.

  • - Respond to the needs of nurses in enhancing their professional capacities and promoting their career development, in addition to fostering their personal growth.

  • - Enhance nurses’ considerations of ethical issues in health care practice and research.

  • - Meet the health care institution's needs for highly qualified professional nurses who are able to continuously respond to the emerging health care challenges.

  • - Expand academic programs to meet the health care priorities of the health care system in the Country.

  • - Foster nurses’ capacities and skills in advocating for the nursing profession, nurses, and clients (individuals, families and communities).

  • - Contribute to the improvement of the image of the nursing profession by further developing the professional capacities of nurses in advanced practice, leadership and research.


MSN Program Learning Outcomes
  • - Integrate the scientific knowledge from nursing, bio-psychosocial, spiritual, public health, quality improvement, organizational sciences for the delivery of evidence based and advanced nursing care.

  • - Demonstrate interdisciplinary healthcare approach in promoting autonomy, self-efficacy and physical and psychological wellbeing of the client.

  • - Demonstrate advanced levels of independent and interdisciplinary clinical practice that is culturally sensitive considering ethical and legal principles.

  • - Promote, in collaboration with the health care team, the culture of safety principles by applying appropriate methods, tools, performance appraisal, and standards relative to patient outcome quality measures.

  • - Integrate current and emerging technologies to deliver timely, accurate and coordinated care across all settings, and within members of the health care team to achieve high quality patient care outcomes.

  • - Integrate critical reasoning, decision making, and the application of theory (evidence-based practice) in holistic centered care through the use of the nursing process.

  • - Provide pertinent and individualized counseling and education on health promotion, restoration, maintenance, and rehabilitation at the individual, family and community level.

  • - Identify the legal, socio-economical, and political determinants in the delivery of health care at the national and international levels; while promoting accessibility to, acceptability, affordability and quality of health care to all.

  • - Assume a leadership role with the concerned stakeholders to develop and apply policies for the delivery of high quality health care.

  • - Develop effective, culturally sensitive, and status appropriate communication which conveys information, thoughts, actions, and feelings through the use of verbal and non-verbal skills.

  • - Serve as advocate in a variety of settings through collaborative and consultative relationships to protect client’s rights, improve the provision of health care services and defend the nursing profession.

  • - Take initiative in proposing and conducting interdisciplinary research that responds to existing health care needs and enhances evidence-based knowledge and practice.

  • - Act as a role model by demonstrating commitment, responsibility and accountability, and by treating others with respect and dignity.



After Graduation
Our graduates will have the capacity and skills to take on leadership roles of advanced practice in specialized areas. Graduates will also be able to act as a reference, consultant, and expert in their field of specialization. Graduates are well prepared to pursue doctoral studies in a related discipline to continue their Nursing education and research in their field of specialization as well as to pursue higher studies in management and administration.











The Academic Service Committee

The Academic Service Committee is a standing committee, established in collaboration with the St. George Hospital University Medical Center (SGHUMC) Nursing Department and the Nursing Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences-UOB. This Committee aims at enhancing and nurturing collaboration between the two institutions in order to foster academic standards of nursing education and the quality of nursing care. The members of the Committee are representatives of the two institutions. The Chairperson and two Nursing faculty members represent the FHS-UOB Nursing Program. The Director and two nurses represent the Nursing Department at SGHUMC. The committee’s objectives are to :
  • - Nurture effective relations and partnership between the Nursing Department at SGHUMC and the Nursing Program at FHS-UOB.

  • - Develop human resource capacities by conducting joint academic, educational, and research activities.

  • - Enhance quality performance and high standard nursing education and care.

  • - Foster a friendly environment by coordinating joint social and recreational activities.
