Experiential Learning

Experiential Learning at FHS is an integral part of academic curricula and community outreach programs. Working on the basis that Experiential Learning improves learning through reflection on professional experiences, the FHS assures and promotes clinical training and internship opportunities for students, exposes students and faculty to clinical and other experiences that expand their professional education and their engagement in promoting health services and the health professions, and enhances the quality performance of health professionals and community practitioners by conducting joint educational, health development, and research activities with the health institutions.

Degree programs at the FHS have clinical trainings, dietetic internships, internships and practicum built into their curricula. Clinical trainings on hospital wards and in laboratory settings enable students to apply what has been learnt in the classroom and to face the challenges of professional practice. Dietetic internships are based on a structured 36 week program of well-designed rotations in nutrition therapy, food service management, and community settings. Public health internships and practicum (approximately 2-4 months depending) place students in a wide variety of community health and hospital settings, ranging from infection control, quality assurance, humanitarian aid, foodsafety, pharmaceutical industries, disease surveillance, occupational health and safety, and health promotion campaigns, among others. Collaboration with colleagues at health institutions also allows the FHS to benefit from their professional expertise in academic settings. In addition, through FHS partnerships with health institutions in Lebanon and internationally, and through joint community development activities, research and trainings are carried out, providing opportunities for faculty and students.
