Mission
The Anesthesiology Residency Program is committed to providing residents with comprehensive Anesthesiology training through exposure to didactic lectures, clinical training in the Operating Room and Intensive Care Unit, Anesthesiology Rounds and Conferences, and facilitated self-learning to acquire the competency of a specialist in Anesthesiology.
Objectives
The Anesthesiology Residency Program aims to prepare residents that fulfill the following competencies in medical education:
- - Medical knowledge:
Residents will demonstrate the clinical experience, technical skills, and their application to patient care.
- - Patient care:
Residents will provide an appropriate and effective patient care focused on anesthetic concerns.
- - Interpersonal and communication skills :
Residents will demonstrate respectful communication with patients, attending physicians, and members of the healthcare team, and the skills needed to communicate concern in critical situations.
- -Practice-based learning and improvement:
Residents will be able to evaluate evidence in medical literature and interpret its effect on anesthesia and patient care practices.
- - Systems-based practice:
Residents will demonstrate an awareness of the contribution of all members of the health care team in the perioperative and intraoperative management of patients.
- - Professionalism :
Residents will demonstrate a commitment towards completing their assigned duties and adherence to ethical principles.
Program Learning Outcomes
By the end of their training, residents are expected to:
- Conduct a preoperative medical history and perform a physical exam focused on anesthetic concerns.
- Discuss the anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to anesthetic induction, maintenance, and emergence.
- Discuss the anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to critical care and emergency management.
- Discuss the anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to pain management.
- Present a clear and appropriate preoperative anesthesiology strategy for patient care.
- Recognize anesthetic options including general, regional, monitored anesthetic care, and procedural sedation.
- Recognize anesthetic risks and anesthetic complications.
- Discuss the principles of intravenous access and safe management of the airways.
- Manage patients with pain syndromes, patients in surgical settings, and patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
- Apply the principles of professional ethics and ethical decision-making.
- Practice continuous self-education.
