Internal Medicine

Mission
The Internal Medicine Residency Program aims to produce competent specialists able to integrate clinical knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide optimal patient care.

Objectives
The objectives of the Internal Medicine Residency Program are to train residents that fulfill upon graduation the following competencies in medical education:
  • - Medical knowledge:
    Residents will apply knowledge of the clinical, socio-behavioral, and fundamental biomedical sciences relevant to Internal Medicine to patient care.
  • - Patient care:
    Residents will provide optimal and patient-centered medical care.
  • - Interpersonal and communication skills:
    Residents will convey accurate information to patients, families, and the health care team.
  • - Practice-based learning and improvement:
    Residents will critically analyze and evaluate medical information and apply it appropriately to practice decisions.
  • - Systems-based practice:
    Residents will develop awareness about the roles of other health care professionals and the need to collaborate with others in caring for patients.
  • - Professionalism :
    Residents will demonstrate a commitment to their patients and profession through ethical practice.

Program Learning Outcomes
By the end of their training, residents are expected to:
  1. Perform a complete and appropriate assessment of the patient.
  2. Develop a prioritized differential diagnosis.
  3. Develop an evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic plan.
  4. Perform an effective consultation.
  5. Use preventive and therapeutic interventions proficiently.
  6. Pursue independent self-learning and skills development, and continuous medical education.
