Environment of Care Essentials
Target Audience:
facility management leaders, infection control practitioners, and hospital leadership, quality managers.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the responsibilities of leadership for planning a safe healthcare facility
• Describe the basic framework necessary for establishing a Facility Management Department for a safer healthcare organization
• Draft the required documents necessary for National and International accreditation such as written programs, policies, procedures, job descriptions, and other supporting documents for a Facility Management Department and Program
• Utilize essential tools for inspecting, testing, and maintaining a safe healthcare facility
• Create a thorough staff education program on the topic of facility management, patient/staff safety and effective healthcare facility
• Implement relevant facility management performance monitors for continuous improvement of the Facility Management Program
Course content will include facility management:
• Safety program – the degree to which the hospital’s buildings, grounds and equipment do not pose a hazard or risk to patients, staff and visitors.
• Security Program – protection from loss, destruction, tampering, or unauthorized access or use of the organization/facility.
• Hazardous materials program – handling, storage, and use of radioactive and other materials are controlled, and hazardous waste is safely disposed.
• Emergency management program – response to epidemics, disasters, and emergencies is planned and effective.
• Fire safety program - property and occupants are protected from fire and smoke.
• Medical equipment – equipment is selected, maintained, and used in a manner to reduce risks.
• Utility systems – electrical, water, and other utility systems are maintained to minimize the risks of operating failures.
45 HOURS PER COURSE
30 hrs face time with JCI Faculty,

3 hrs final exam
