Medication Management
Target audience
is pharmacists, medical staff, and nursing leaders.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to understand the components of a comprehensive medication management program.
• Evaluate policies, data, and processes pertaining to medications in all areas of the organization.
• Review of high-risk processes.
• Understand pharmacy operations assessments
• Understand the safe use of electronic medical systems
Course content will include:
• Organization management of pharmacy services including settings and staffing
• Selection and procurement of medications
• Ordering and transcribing of medication – elements of complete medication orders
• Storage of medications properly and safely
• Storage of concentrated electrolytes and high alert medications
• Discuss conditions for product stability
• Storage of controlled medications
• Storage of medications requiring special handling
• Preparing and dispensing including Intravenous Admixtures
• Appropriateness review of medication orders
• Administration
• Medication recall system
• Monitoring of medication effects and adverse effects on patients
• Medication errors definition, reporting and processes to act on medication errors.
The JCI consultant will utilize didactic presentation, group exercises, assessment of safe medication management processes utilizing tracer methodology.
45 HOURS PER COURSE
30 hrs face time with JCI Faculty,
12 hrs self-paced learning,
3 hrs final exam
