Department of Civil Construction

The Bachelor in "Civil and Construction" covers all stages of the design and implementation of sustainable structures. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for successful careers in sustainable construction technology, from the design of sustainable structures to their construction, monitoring and maintenance. The Bachelor also prepares students to work in a multidisciplinary environment immediately after graduation.
The program in Civil Construction technology offers opportunities for expertise in one of two tracks:
  • - Green and Smart Building
  • - Water Treatment and Networks
The fundamental Construction Technology courses related to sustainable design are common for both tracks and provide a broad knowledge of the main fields of civil engineering.

WHY STUDY CIVIL CONSTRUCTION?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment growth for civil engineers and technologists were first in terms of projected new jobs over the period from 2016 to 2026.

That growth comes in part because of new uses for artificial intelligence, robotics, additive manufacturing, virtual reality, and other technologies that will be incorporated into engineered products and processes. Civil technology are placing more emphasis on computer vision, BIM, virtual reality, sustainability, and 3D printing technologies that are gaining prominence in parallel.

More technology will be needed than ever before.
WHY CIVIL CONSTRUCTION AT UOB?

Recently, Civil engineering is poised to undergo major transition; thanks to the advancement in technology, which is the driving force behind the changes, this major will witness.

Based on these latest developments that are becoming latest trends, the Civil Construction program offers comprehensive classes, designed to give students the necessary skills for jobs in both the public, and private sectors.

While in the program, students will have internship opportunities for hands-on experience with an extensive international experience represented by a joint degree with University of Limoges in France where students will have the possibility to study abroad.

WHAT WILL ONE ACTUALLY STUDY IN THIS MAJOR?

Graduates of the Bachelor in Civil Construction will have the ability to plan, prepare and use design, construction and operating documents.

The “Green and Smart Building” track allows students to:
  • - acquire professional standards engaged in construction technology of green and smart buildings.

The "Water treatments and networks" track allows students to:
  • - have a wide knowledge of the principles and practices of disciplines and laws related to the engineering of green and smart buildings.

  • - learn in a practical way the different techniques of water treatment (drinking, waste), maintenance of equipment such as pumps and valves.

  • - acquire multidisciplinary skills directly applied to the management and supervision of water utilities.

CAREER PROSPECTS

After graduating, you can work as:

  • - Civil Engineering Technologist

  • - Survey Technologist

  • - Project Manager

  • - Construction Inspector

  • - Site Supervisor

You will get to be:

  • - on site for execution, monitoring and operation management

Wahib Arairo, PhD
wahib.arairo@balamand.edu.lb
Welcome to the Department of Civil Construction at University of Balamand.
Today, civil construction have central roles to play in defining the future of our nation and the world. The critical issues of the day—economic recovery, energy conservation and resources, infrastructure preservation, environmental quality and climate change, and national security, among others—each demand critical thinking about the materials, systems, design, operations, and management of civil infrastructure systems, as well as the natural systems with which they interact. These are tasks for civil construction, in close collaboration with broader interdisciplinary teams.
Students who are trained in civil construction at University of Balamand have a broad, fluid base in science and technology. This enables them to work across disciplines and tackle the grand challenges of improving our living conditions in harmony with nature.
Civil Construction focuses on concepts and principles in the built environment and on the technological process. It embraces practical skills and the application of scientific principles. This subject aims to create and improve the built environment to enhance the quality of life of the individual and society and to ensure the sustainable use of the natural environment. The program focuses on two main areas: (1) Green and Smart Building, (2) Water Treatment and Networks. Graduates will find study and work opportunities on almost every continent in the world, pursuing careers in business, consulting, and technology-driven industry; in public health, environmental protection, and ecological restoration; in small and large scale construction and material and structural analysis and design; and in managing air, water, and land transit of goods and people.
Please enjoy your visit to the Department of Civil Construction website. Connect with us further via social media and be sure to contact us with any questions.
