Message from the Director

Welcome to The University of Balamand Geographic Information Systems Centre (GISC). As advocates for the infusion of modern technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing, the GIS Centre is committed to supporting faculty and students in synthesizing spatial theory and mapping spatially aware information to better understand our surroundings and make informed spatial decision. Additionally, the GIS Center promotes multidisciplinary projects within the field of GIS, hence we encourage interfaculty research.

In our commitment to better serve our community and to provide the best learning experience to our students through learning-by-doing, the GIS Center attracts projects from public, private, and non-governmental agencies in their transition to the smart digital world and more importantly supporting improved stewardship of our Country’s limited natural resources, promote sustainability, and advancing GIS literacy and capacity building in Lebanon.

As a state-of-the-art center, we strive to fulfill our mission which is to promote, educate, coordinate and advance the practical and efficient use of GIS in Lebanon. Our moto is “GIS: from Lab to Society".
