UOB Alumnus Dr. Hilal El-Hassan from UAEU delivering a seminar on Curricular Improvement and ABET Assessment Impacts

Dr. Hilal El-Hassan, an esteemed Associate Professor from the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), and a Civil Engineering graduate from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand (UOB) has recently visited his alma mater and delivered a seminar at the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at UOB. The seminar, entitled "Curricular Improvement and Assessment of ABET Student Outcomes Using a Program-Based Exit Exam" has attracted faculty members from various engineering disciplines expressing interest in the subject matter.

Hosted on Friday 5th April 2024, Dr. El-Hassan shared invaluable insights garnered from his extensive experience at UAEU, particularly focusing on methods to enhance curricula and assess ABET student outcomes. The seminar was a significant addition to the department's initiatives, especially amidst its current emphasis on ABET reaccreditation. Attendees expressed appreciation for Dr. El-Hassan's engaging presentation and the practical knowledge he imparted.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. El-Hassan’s visit was a planned initiative by his colleague Dr. Abdulkader El-Mir, an Assistant Professor within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UOB. This academic collaboration, based on a recent MoU signed between both universities, underscores the joint commitment of both colleagues to bring valuable expertise back to the institution they both graduated from.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud welcomed Dr. El-Hassan to his office. He expressed his sincere appreciation for the seminar and highlighted the importance of integrating such insights into the faculty's curriculum development and teaching methodologies. The meeting provided an opportunity for them to discuss in depth the implications of Dr. El-Hassan’s insights on the faculty’s academic programs. Discussions revolved primarily around sustainable practices and further collaborative initiatives.
