DEPARTMENTS OVERVIEW
PUBLIC HEALTH
During these uncommon times, people are getting more aware of and convinced about
the role of public health practitioners in reshaping the health of communities and
in contributing to the creation of better health systems. In the Public Health Department,
we pursue our mission through our undergraduate and graduate programs, and our research
activities.
Our undergraduate degrees are recognized in the region for their unique structure
that is based on the acquisition of solid theoretical background in various Public
Health domains, and the development of professional and technical skills. Students
may select a BS degree in Public Health & Development Sciences; Health Promotion;
or follow a Public Health BS degree with a Pre-Med Track. Students may also opt
for a dual degree (2 BS Degrees) in both Public Health & Development Sciences
and Health Promotion.
Our graduate Master of Public Health (MPH) Program prepares students to assume professional
roles and be involved in preventing injuries, responding to disasters, encouraging
healthier lifestyles, protecting against environmental hazards, contributing to
the development of policies, and taking part in important decision making processes.
The MPH Program at the Public Health Department offers 2 tracks: Community Health;
and Health, Safety, and Environment.
We have diverse and multidisciplinary full-time and part-time faculty members who
are engaged in a wide range of research initiatives. It is important to note that
our part-timers give a different dimension to our courses by exposing our students
to real life examples from the field. These opportunities allow our students to
develop their professional networks before graduating.
Young people who choose a career in Public Health come from all backgrounds - humanities,
sciences, or social sciences. Our graduates can choose between a wide variety of
potential employment opportunities after graduation, including in: governmental
bodies; international agencies; mass media; environmental agencies; education, academia,
and research; non-governmental organizations and industries; humanitarian and emergency
response; occupational health and safety; hospitals, primary health care centres,
health administration, and health insurance.
Heroes are currently needed to secure the health and wellbeing of our communities
and the environment, to be able to stand strong in the face of new challenges and
adversities. People interested in health and well-being, and who are attracted to
“hands-on” work in communities to contribute to their development, will enjoy the
challenges and rewards of Public Health.
We believe that Public Health is a passion, a commitment, a career! Feel free to
contact us if you have any inquiries about our programs.
