Vaccination Center
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of
Balamand played an important role during the Covid-19 crisis.
The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences played
a major part in the PCR laboratory for Covid-19 testing, at
the Kurah campus. The Department of Medical Laboratory
Sciences was involved in the Balamand-Hayati against
Corona" project that tracks and traces COVID-19 in Lebanon.
The University of Balamand, led by a team of experienced
virologists established a molecular laboratory to screen for
COVID -19 in the community.
The team set up three rooms: one room for extraction,
another one for sample preparation and a third room for PCR
amplification. The team also validated the test process to
make SARS-CoV-2 testing readily available for the community.
Once the national deployment and vaccination plan was
set and announced by the government, the University of
Balamand decided to launch a COVID-19 vaccination center
that was accredited by the ministry of health. The Nursing
Program conducted information sessions for the staff, FHS
and nursing faculty members as well as the senior and MSN
students directly involved in the vaccination process that
covered registration, administration of the vaccine and the
post vaccination adverse events. The Nursing Program took
the lead to organize the daily schedule, to secure volunteers
from FHS faculty, staff, students, and graduates and to orient
and supervise the vaccinators. The nursing faculty members
were reporting to the center on a regular basis to supervise
the flow of work related to vaccine administration. The nursing
and MSN students were all volunteering in the center to give
the vaccine to the community.
