Civil and Environmental Engineering Labs Receive ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Civil and Environmental Engineering Labs Receive ISO 9001:2015 Certification

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering has announced that it has received its ISO 9001:2015 certification. This recent certification follows in a long line of quality certification efforts that have been ongoing since 2016. The certification was obtained through SGS (formerly Société Générale de Surveillance) a multinational company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland which provides inspection, verification, testing and certification services. ISO 9001 certification helps laboratory facilities develop and improve performance, as well as demonstrate high levels of service quality. With the high level of documentation, excellent quality of equipment and sustained services, the certification was issued for 3 years until February 2023.

ISO 9001:2015 certification is an indispensable part of the faculty’s endeavors towards sustainable development. The adoption of a quality management system is a strategic direction to improve the overall performance continuously. According to the SGS website, "The ISO 9001 quality management system (QMS) documents the processes, procedures, and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives. Based on seven quality management principles, the ISO 9001:2015 certification defines how an organization operates to meet the requirements of its customers and stakeholders."

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Laboratories at the Faculty of Engineering are a hub for excellent teaching, high caliber research, testing, and public services. These two laboratories constitute an ideal learning environment for realizing our educational objectives and developmental impact on society, nationally and internationally, under our motto “From Lab to Society”.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Rami Abboud met with the team that led the certification process on behalf of the faculty and consisted of Mrs. Nina Hilal, Dr. Yasmine Jabaly Ms. Katia Chedid and Dr. Joseph Assaad. He commended their hard work, commitment, and dedication as this result could not have happened overnight but rather with perseverance and hard work of many other faculty and staff members, under able past and present Chairpersons. Prof Abboud remarked that he sees this accreditation as one further testament to sustaining the quality of education and distinguished services that the faculty provides to its students and community.
