A New Publication by Dr. Elie Dannaoui

We are delighted to announce that an Encyclopedia entry, authored by Dr. Elie Dannaoui, Director of the Digital Humanities Centre, has been published in the prestigious encyclopedia, Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception (EBR), published by De Gruyter. This work is a significant outcome of a research project led by Dr. Dannaoui as the primary investigator at the Digital Humanities Centre, focusing on the Arabic translations of the Gospels.

The article delves into the rich cultural and religious tapestry of the Ottoman Empire, highlighting the diverse Christian denominations and their use of various languages for worship and communication. It explores the historical context of Bible translations within the empire, particularly the transition to Arabic as a primary liturgical language for several Christian communities. Additionally, the piece examines the impact of printing technology on the dissemination and standardization of Biblical texts.

This scholarly contribution not only sheds light on the intricate history of the Ottoman Empire but also underscores the importance of preserving and understanding the cultural heritage through the lens of Digital Humanities.
