Institute of Theology’s Book Receives International Acclaim Through Greek Translation

We are thrilled to announce that “The Mystery of Marriage Amid Deconstruction: A Dialogue Between Orthodox Anthropology and Postmodern Perspectives” has received international recognition with its recent translation into Greek with additions. This book is authored by Fr. Bassam Nassif, Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at the Saint John of Damascus Institute of Theology in the University of Balamand, as the result of his remarkable PhD dissertation in theology. This Greek translation was published in November 2024 by the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi Publications, a renowned publishing house of Mount Athos that encompasses a vast world of ecclesiastical, spiritual, and academic books.

This notable achievement follows the book’s earlier success in Romanian, where it was translated and published by the Basilica Publishing House in March 2023, the largest theological publishing house in Romania. Earlier this year, the Antiochian Vicariate of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil also translated the book to Portuguese. This recognition, alongside its Greek translation, highlights the global impact of Fr. Nassif’s work, which was originally published in English by Balamand in January 2022.

“The Mystery of Marriage Amid Deconstruction” explores the social changes of the contemporary era and their profound influence on human life, particularly the meaning of marriage. The book engages in an interdisciplinary dialogue between postmodern perspectives on marriage and family and the vision of Orthodox anthropology, addressing issues of Christian theology and postmodern thought: mystery, love, authority, and intimacy. This dialogue strives to promote a positive engagement between the Orthodox Church and the postmodern world.

This translation marks a significant step forward in fostering greater theological dialogue and understanding.
