The Department of Political Science and International Affairs (PSIA) at the University of Balamand launched its highly anticipated 27-Minute Lecture Series on February 13 with a compelling lecture by Dr. Khaldoun Sharif, an internationally recognized expert on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Dr. Sharif, who currently serves as a consultant at the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva, delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled
The Arab-Israeli Conflict and Lebanon's Future in the Current Context.
Dr. Sharif’s lecture provided a nuanced analysis of the historical and contemporary dimensions of the Arab-Israeli conflict, shedding light on its implications for Lebanon’s political and economic future. Drawing on his extensive expertise, he explored the evolving dynamics of the region, emphasizing the interconnectedness of regional conflicts and their impact on Lebanon’s stability. The 27-Minute Lecture Series, organized by the PSIA department for the month of February, aims to address pressing issues in politics, media, and society through the perspectives of distinguished experts. Each lecture is designed to be concise yet impactful, offering attendees valuable insights in a focused format.
Following Dr. Sharif’s opening lecture, the series will feature three additional speakers. On February 20, Dr. Omar Nashabe, a prominent legal expert and journalist, will tackle the state of prisons in Lebanon, identifying key challenges and proposing actionable solutions. On February 27, Mr. Georges Salibi, a seasoned media professional, will discuss the complexities of covering Lebanese news, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges faced by journalists in the country. The series will conclude on March 6 with a lecture by Mr. Ramzi El Hafez, who will explore the intricate relationship between politics and business, highlighting how these two spheres influence each other in Lebanon and beyond.
All lectures will be held at the Nahyan Auditorium, starting at 12:35 PM and concluding at 1:35 PM. The series provides an excellent opportunity for students, faculty, and the broader community to engage with leading experts and gain deeper insights into critical issues shaping Lebanon and the region.
