UOB Welcomes Aline Kamakian for a Talk on Restaurant Entrepreneurship and Resilience

The University of Balamand’s School of Tourism and Hotel Management (THM) hosted Aline Kamakian, founder of Mayrig and Batchig, for an insightful lecture on restaurant entrepreneurship, fusion cuisine and overcoming challenges in the hospitality industry on the 4th of March, 2025.

Aline shared her personal journey, including the rebuilding of her restaurant after the devastating Beirut port explosion in 2020. She emphasized how mistakes and setbacks are part of the entrepreneurial journey and encouraged students to learn from failures and keep pushing forward, saying, "Mistakes are inevitable, but it’s how you respond to them that defines your success."

Aline also stressed the importance of women seeking financial independence, explaining how it allows them to live life on their own terms and break free from traditional societal expectations. She advised students to learn from her own mistakes, especially when it comes to building business partnerships and choosing a suitable location for a restaurant. Aline also shared her belief that Lebanon, despite its challenges, remains a land of opportunities, encouraging students to see obstacles as stepping stones for innovation.

Dr. Jihane Adeimi, Director of THM, also addressed the audience, highlighting the cultural value of food as a means of preserving traditions and connecting people. She discussed how fusion cuisine can transcend borders and create new experiences, emphasizing the importance of food in the hospitality industry.
