Ribal Wehbe Performs at Balamand Monastery for Beirut Chants Festival

The Beirut Chants Festival expanded its reach this year by hosting a unique concert in North Lebanon for the first time. Held at the Lady of Balamand Patriarchal Monastery, the evening featured a moving performance of Byzantine hymns and chants by Ribal Wehbe.

The event began with blessings from the Abbot of the Monastery, Archimandrite Fr. George Yaacoub, followed by speeches from Mrs. Micheline Abi Samra, Founder of Beirut Chants, and Dr. Elias Warrak, President of the University of Balamand. The event was supported by the University of Balamand, the Tamari Foundation, and the Embassy of Cyprus in Lebanon.

The performance, which relied solely on vocal harmonies, highlighted the rich tradition of Byzantine music. Romanian soloist Marian Ungureanu joined Wehbe, bringing depth and vibrancy to the chants, while members of the SEM Choir provided harmonious support, creating a deeply spiritual and serene atmosphere.

This special evening emphasized the cultural and spiritual significance of Byzantine music while broadening the scope of Beirut Chants. The concert offered attendees a memorable experience in a historical setting, celebrating music as a bridge between tradition and modern appreciation.
